Eva Airlines

<<evaplane.JPG>> Finally, after a long days travel, we are ready to
board the airplane to Taipei. This plane is a Boeing 747-400 and was fun
to ride in. I was hoping to ride in an Air Bus
(http://www.airbus.com/en/aircraftfamilies/ ), but I'll have to do that
another time!! It's time to get our seats! Here is a great clip of my
plane flying in the air (I did not videotape this!)!

What is your destination?!

<<destinationlist.JPG>> The Los Angeles International Airport was full
of fascinating and interesting people from all over the world!! Once we
landed, we had to walk over to the international section of the airport.
This area was designed especially for people traveling outside of the
United States. You can see some of the destinations people were heading
to in this picture.

Flying to LAX

<<buckledupagain.JPG>> Andy Bear had his own seat on this leg of the
trip!! We watched a movie and had another snack! Boy, are they treating
us well!

Getting ready for our second leg - Los Angeles. California!!

<<texmexlunch.JPG>> Before the next leg of our trip, we decided to try
some good ole Tex-Mex food. This food is a blend of Texas and Mexican
traditions. Andy Bear loved it!! Now, on to Los Angeles Airport.

Transportation at the airport

<<dallastram.JPG>> The Dallas Airport has 5 terminals (or sections)
where planes can load and unload passengers. We landed in Terminal C,
but our next flight left out of Terminal E. The terminals are so spread
out that you can't walk from one to the other - so we had to ride on the
Skylink (http://www.dfwairport.com/flyer/05/05/skylink.html ).

Meeting the pilots

<<americanpilots.JPG>> Andy Bear had the great privilege of meeting the
pilots of our first flight. They did a great job of flying safely!! Many
years of training are required to become a pilot. I imagine these two
men would say that it was worth their efforts.

Our first leg - to Dallas, Texas

<<seatbelt.JPG>> The first leg of our trip was from Jackson,
Mississippi to Dallas, Texas. The pilot made sure that everyone had
their seatbelts fastened before he began the flight - including Andy
Bear!! This flight was only about an hour long. Just enough time for a
cup of water and a snack. The plane flew at 29,000 feet above sea
level!! I wonder how fast the plane was traveling?!

More security!!

<<xray.JPG>> Andy Bear rides with my belongings through the x-ray
machine. Everything made it through just fine, except my laptop. It did,
however, make it through the second time around! Now we are cleared to
board the airplane.

Security Check

<<securityman.JPG>>
The security man checked my passport to make sure it matched my boarding
pass. His job is to keep everyone safe at all times.

Taiwan

<<weighing in.JPG>> A traveler can't just walk into the airport and
onto a plane! We had to weigh my bag (and Andy Bear) before it was sent
to the cargo section of the plane - yeah, it was under the weight limit.
A special crew of workers take care of the luggage, making sure it all
gets to the right destination. Next stop, security!

Taiwan

<<boarding pass.JPG>> The first thing we did at the airport was verify
my a seat on the plane and pick up my boarding pass. Because I bought my
ticket on-line, I was able to use this kiosk to check in and print my
boarding pass. The American Airline employee said that Andy Bear could
fly with me even though he didn't have a ticket - he would just have to
sit on my lap! They did ask for my passport because I was taking a trip
outside of the United States (Andy Bear didn't need one this time, but
we might want to get him one for the future!).

Taiwan

<<At the airport.JPG>> We made it to the airport with plenty of time
for check-in. I don't think we forgot anything. We made sure everything
fit into one bag so we didn't have too much to manage (or to lose).

Taiwan

Andy Bear and I are packed and ready to head out to the Jackson International Airport. We had to make sure we had my passport and ticket/hotel information. I didn’t have an actual plane ticket in hand because I used the Internet to buy my ticket (and make my hotel reservations). I was able to email the hotel in Taipei before I left to get some answers to questions I had. We’re ready to go!

Cannon Firing at Vicksburg Military Park.

Message from Carolyn Ray:

Feel free to edit -- sorry about the poor shot of cannon actually firing -- I had to cover my ears -- thought I still had the shot though.
